Best Moments on TV of 2022... So Far

I have overlooked certain shows that have been critically acclaimed, such as Ozark (2017), The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (2017), Barry (2018), Ted Lasso (2020), Squid Game (2021) and Hacks (2021). I'm also not caught up on shows like Better Call Saul (2015). All of those shows are likely to get Emmy nominations, but they won't make my list.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the highest rated new show is the CBS comedy Ghosts (2021). In fact, when it comes to the network with the most shows in the Top 20, CBS is currently in the lead with half the Top 20 belonging to the Tiffany Network. NBC is in second place. The 2nd highest, new show is NBC's La Brea, which is very entertaining and is akin to ABC's Lost (2004).

However, when it comes to twisty, mystery shows akin to Lost, the series that has most critics abuzz is Apple TV's Severance (2022). It's a mind-bending thriller that unfortunately I haven't seen, due to not having an Apple TV+ subscription. Due to my lacking, I've also missed out on Pachinko (2022), a Korean, historical drama that also has critics abuzz.

One curious trend in television this past season is that of shows about Silicon Valley, specifically tech companies that came under controversy or even scandal. The first was Super Pumped, which premiered on Showtime, focusing on the problems facing Uber. The second was The Dropout, which premiered on Hulu, focusing on Theranos, a health company whose product turned out to be a fraud. Finally, there was WeCrashed, which premiered on Apple TV, focusing on the rise and fall of WeWork, a shared space company whose IPO failed. Of all these shows, The Dropout is probably the one that is most outstanding, detailing the scam from the now infamous Elizabeth Holmes.
