Best Moments on TV of 2021

I don't subscribe to Apple TV+, so I haven't seen Ted Lasso, which won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Comedy Series. There was a little bit of controversy with the 73rd Primetime Emmy Awards in that, despite diversity in the nominations, particularly the acting categories, all the winners were White. The winners were representing programs that I enjoyed, such as The Crown on Netflix and Mare of Easttown on HBO, but, even the Golden Globe Awards, which has been accused of racism, gave a Black actor an award, that of John Boyega for Small Axe on Amazon Prime. At the recent, 79th Golden Globe Awards, MJ Rodriguez won Best Actress for Pose on FX, making her the first transgender actress to do so. Rodriguez was nominated at the Emmys, but she didn't get the trophy. Let it be known the Emmys are not a perfect organization and there are still racial disparities there to be addressed.

One of those disparities is the lack of representation in the Comedy Series category. There has been a lack of programs that have been recognized that have an African-American lead character or that of a cast that is predominantly African-American or comprised mostly of people of color. With the exception of Black-ish on ABC, there's been little to none in that regard. There certainly hasn't been an African-American program or a program with predominantly people of color that has won Outstanding Comedy Series since The Cosby Show at the 37th Primetime Emmys, which was over 35 years ago. The opportunities are there, especially with HBO's Insecure, which just aired its fifth and final season. There's also the second season of Love Life on HBO Max, which featured William Jackson Harper and a predominantly Black cast for that series. All that being said, here is my list of the best on television:
