If you're a lover of films or would like to take your family to an inexpensive night out, there are several theaters on Delmarva where you can see movies on the big screen either for FREE or for as little as $1 all summer long, from June to August.

The town of Dewey Beach is hosting family films every Monday night. The films will screen on the southern Delaware beach off Dagsworthy Street. Barring inclement weather, the movies kick off at 8:30 PM. Even parking in that area is free.

Up the road, the Rehoboth Beach Film Society is having its annual film review sessions. As part of the society's process of selecting titles for its film festival in November, free screenings, which are open to the public, are held at the South Coastal Library in Bethany Beach, as well as the Movies at Midway in Rehoboth Beach. The screenings are Mondays and Tuesdays at 7:00 PM.

The state's capital has free screenings of movies four days a week. Sometimes, it's five days a week, depending on the schedule. The Dover Public Library plays family films as well as past, noteworthy, independent and arthouse films for adults. The regular days are Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Occasionally, a fifth day will be on Saturdays or Wednesdays. Most screenings are in the afternoon at 2:00 PM. Other screenings at later in the evening.

On the Eastern Shore of Maryland and Virginia, there are two places like Dewey Beach where families can go and see a free film outside on a big screen this summer. The first is on the beach adjacent to the Carousel Resort Hotel in Ocean City, MD at 8:30 PM. The other requires film-goers to bring their own chairs to Robert Reed Waterfront Park, behind the library on Chincoteague Island, VA. Films are projected starting at dusk.

Finally, Regal Cinemas has its Summer Movie Express, a nine-week program starting on June 17. The program includes a family film every Tuesday and Wednesday morning at 10:00 AM in Salisbury. The only difference is that these movies aren't free. The ticket price is $1 and the only reason is so that proceeds can go to the Will Rogers Institute.
